Can Data Be Recovered From a Failed Hard Drive?

Utilities such as file-system repair tools are designed to make a disk usable, not necessarily to preserve every recoverable file. Running a repair command on the original may change directory structures and remove records that recovery software could otherwise use. Encryption and BitLocker warnings

Encryption changes the recovery situation. If a Windows drive was protected by BitLocker or another encryption system, recovered raw data may remain unreadable without the correct recovery key or password.
